Mission
Our Mission is to end Veteran homelessness and address the challenges seen in the families of our nations Veterans.
Veteran Opportunities Unlimited Incorporated is a committed and dedicated group of Veterans and family members that are devoted to ending repetitive and chronic homelessness initially among our nations homeless female Veteran population. That population consists of homeless female Veterans with or without children, homeless pregnant female Veterans including their families for each. We will then shift our focus to include all Veterans that can benefit from our passion and program. Our Mission is to end Veteran homelessness and address the challenges seen in the families of our nations Veterans.
Our experience as Veterans and family members of Veterans gives us a unique perspective and the ability to reinforce and re-establish the characteristics and skills already built into the fabric of Veterans. We take the discipline, leadership, commitment, and ambition to accomplish a mission ingrained in the Veteran and reintroduce those skill-sets that proved to be effective. We will provide a “Way-up, and a Way-out” using the “5M” Recovery Model which includes Maintenance, Motivation, Mission, Meaning and Money.
In many cases, the skills learned by Veterans were thought to be lost, inessential, or useless unless in a military environment. Their skills lie dormant eroding beneath the surface seemingly futile. However, it is those skills that every Veteran has buried beneath all the challenges they face that are the most promising. This is their way out is our way in. Among our staff, we have over 97% Veterans in which most have also shared similar experiences and challenges of the very population we intend to serve and alleviate. We are also comprised of passionate family members of Veterans that are also aware of the challenges Veterans face that are equally committed to our cause.
Our Vision is to end the mentality of homelessness among Veterans by providing them with the “5M” Recovery Model and Temp-to-Perm All In One Housing Solutions so they are safe and no longer living on the streets or in substandard shelters and provide a piece of mind. Once they have completed several phases of the “5M” Recovery Model they will transition in place to their permanent homes. Our decision to have the Veterans transition in place to permanent housing will save hundreds of thousands of dollars for the community, state, and government as there will be no need to move from place to place or from temporary to permanent housing.
In all areas of life—no matter your background—we know relationships are crucial to well-being and able to break the cycle of homelessness, especially among Veterans. We call friends in hard times, visit family members when they are sick, and often visit support groups for individuals who’ve experienced similar challenges like chronic disease or loss of a loved one. In the same way that we reach out to someone who we think will understand, peer support can provide that understanding during a time when many feel alienated and hopeless. We have Certified Peer Specialists on staff to provide that critical and crucial connection and hope that change and model that recovery is possible. Again living our motto, “Their Way Out is Our Way In.”
